Homemade Chai Tea Concentrate

A remedy for all blues, especially winter ones!

I had been looking for a delicious chai tea recipe that I could replicate and stumbled across one on a blog about a month ago. I gave it a try and was thoroughly impressed with the outcome of it! I have yet to make it again but when I find the time again I will and I also am going to try and make it a little spicier! Give it a try and let me know what you think!

I found my ingredients at the local coop!

Recipe:

4 1/2 cups water
1 stick cinnamon
1 3-inch piece of fresh ginger, chopped
7 whole cardamom pods
2 whole star anise pods
10 whole cloves
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon orange zest
10 bags of black tea
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon vanilla

I steeped it with one cinnamon stick and then put another one in the jar I stored it in.

Combine spices and tea bags with water in medium pot and steep for 20-30 minutes. In a separate bowl combine brown sugar, honey and vanilla. After tea is done steeping strain it through a very fine strainer, trying to keep all spices out of the strained mixture and combine it with the sugar, honey and vanilla in the separate bowl. Stir until well combined and sugar is dissolved. Store in a mason jar or other container and refrigerate, (this is where I added a cinnamon stick to the jar).

To enjoy delicious Chai, combine equal parts with milk or soy milk and heat until hot or put over ice!

Muah! Enjoy!

Winter’s Fall

Snow…

This photo was shot for one of my photography class assignments. The subject matter was to be snow. I went out into my boyfriend’s parents’ backyard in Wisconsin after a beautiful snowfall and got this! I really love the way the sunlight is shining through the leaves showing all of their veins. I thought that it was interesting that in mid-January there were still leaves as vivid as this one. It sure has been an odd winter! I think that this photograph does a great deal of exploring the juxtaposition of fall and winter in one frame giving a sense of seasonal change.
